A catch-all email mailbox is one that gathers all the messages sent to inactive addresses. For instance, if your address is firstname.lastname@example.org, but someone mistypes it and sends a message to email@example.com, it will still be received in the catch-all mailbox that you have set up. Just one mailbox per domain name can have this feature activated and thus you’ll never miss messages because the other party has an outdated email address or has made a spelling mistake. The drawback of having a catch-all mailbox is that you may begin receiving plenty of junk messages, but this issue can be resolved using anti-spam filtering software. It is also important to remember that a mailbox with an active catch-all functionality cannot forward incoming emails to a 3rd-party address.
